Young people are not lost<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

It\u2019s not just another TikTok trend; young people are flocking into church in droves. News channels such as Sky News, ITV News and the New York Times are all reporting on the sudden increase of Gen Z in the church pews \u2013 Jesus is stirring the hearts of the younger generation, but why?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Gen Z<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n

Gen Z, short for Generation Z, is typically made up of people born between about 1997 and 2012. This makes them roughly 13 to 28 years old as of early 2026, following Millennials and preceding Generation Alpha. While the exact start and end dates can vary slightly by source, 1997-2012 is a widely accepted range by organizations like the Library of Congress and Pew Research Center.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For this generation, they are wrapped up in the digital era, with the internet, smartphone, social media and constant information being their bread and water. Global uncertainty has been a staple \u2013 terrorism, financial crashes, global pandemics, culture wars and fragmented public opinion only becoming more intense as the years pass . This is not a surprise but the words of Jesus coming to pass,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.\u201d<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Matthew 24:6 – 8<\/p>\n

These are birth pains, signalling the end days to come, and can cause the necessity for turning to religion to lose its appeal. Statistically, they are expected to be the least religious generation with censuses reporting the decline of Christianity. Gen Z\u2019s ideals have been formed by a world where identity is self-defined and truth is personal; liberalism being a call to choose your own rules.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Bible Society produced a report titled: \u2018The Quiet Revival: Gen Z leads rise in church attendance,\u2019 which sports surprising figures on the resurgence of Christianity in the UK.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The statistics<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n

Men are going to church! The YouGov survey has reported a dramatic growth in young men in particular, attending church monthly. In general, monthly church attendance has increased from 8 per cent in 2018 to 12 per cent in 2024. Among Generation Z, attendance has quadrupled from 4 per cent to 16 per cent among 18\u201324-year-olds with an even sharper rise being evident among young men \u2013 reported attendance increasing fivefold from 4 per cent to 21 per cent. Surprisingly, the report showed that men are 3 per cent more likely to go church than women, with women coming in at 10 per cent.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

67 per cent of churchgoing Christians read the Bible at least weekly outside church (hallelujah!) Bible reading has increased, however, amongst the young people it has become apparent that discipleship is needed around scripture. UK Bible sales have surged in recent years, rising from \u00a32.69m in 2019 to \u00a35.02m in 2024, a jump that far outpaces the modest growth seen in the previous decade. This resurgence is increasingly linked to Generation Z, with youth-focused editions nearly doubling in sales since 2021. The trend is not confined to the UK: US Bible sales have also risen sharply, up 22 per cent in the past year, with many purchases coming from first-time buyers. As highlighted earlier, the chaos in the world with all that is happening in the media and British culture can shake foundations of their faith and point to Bible reading becoming more challenging.<\/p>\n

Social media<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n

Love Island and TOWIE star Matilda Draper may not fit the mould of a traditional Christian evangelist, but at 25, she is among a growing number of young influencers openly sharing their faith online. Reflecting on the cultural shift, she says, \u201cI remember being at school and telling people I believed in God, only to be mocked for it. Now I couldn\u2019t be prouder. It\u2019s becoming normal.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“There’s so much bad in the world, there’s so much negativity that you see online. The stuff we fill our brain with – it doesn’t have any substance and I do think that people are yearning for purpose and fulfilment,” Matilda Draper continues.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The same media that flicks through the newest wars and treaty agreements has also been effective in showcasing Christianity, not just a religion, but as an answer. Dr Edward David is a lecturer at King\u2019s College London and through his research on religious behaviours of young people and the increase of them in church, observes social media\u2019s huge role. He states priests and clerics have received increasing hordes of young people knocking on their doors because they \u2018have encountered a religious idea on Instagram.\u2019 Media evangelism is working \u2013 a TikTok being the first time a young person has the opportunity to learn about Jesus through a video and wanting more.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Christianity has found a vast digital pulpit on TikTok, where more than 25 million videos now circulate under the hashtag #ChristianTikTok, turning the platform into an unlikely but thriving space for faith, testimony, and scripture.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Why is Jesus the answer for young people?<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n

It has become a lot more \u2018normal\u2019 to attend church and speak on your faith and speak on it loudly. Radical faith displayed through social media channels have stirred the heart of the young generation to understand that Jesus is the solution amidst all the evil that is happening in the world. Where darkness seems to have prevailed, the Church has become a beacon of light to the lost. The mythological and ancient essence of church has become a thing of the past, the church\u2019s modern transformation being an appeal.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A growing emphasis on community is also drawing young people toward religion, with many arguing that it offers a sense of belonging increasingly absent from wider society. There has been a cry for third spaces amongst the young. A third space is any place outside home and work\/school where people can relax, connect, and belong. Caf\u00e9s, parks, clubs, or churches often serve this role, offering community and social connection that many feel is missing in today\u2019s fast-paced, digital world. People escape to church to find belonging, and find it. Looking around a church, and seeing other people that look like you, share the same values as you and share the love of Jesus like you \u2013 it binds people.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In Gen Z\u2019s search for answers, they can choose to turn to darker forms of spirituality with things like manifestation and the occult attempting to immerse themselves within the younger generation. It is crucial that the body of Christ remain unified and present a strong front on the foundation of Christ, to combat the forces that would see to it that the young dwell in dark spaces. There is safety and direction in the church, contrary to the reports on the \u2018bad\u2019 happening in the church. Shepherds must lead well and remain strong in their faith; the strength of their faith is beckoning a generation marked as lost to the Lamb of God.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The cross is no longer a decorative feature, bound to the confines of girly chains or jewellery charms. Gen Z is highlighting that therein the cross lies the answer to the woes of life and the evil of this world \u2013 Jesus is real, and He is coming back for His spotless bride. The old, the young, and all that are in-between need to become accustomed to that and follow suit.<\/p>\n

Joel 2:28 reads,<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions.\u201d<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

It is not just the old involved in the fulfillment of this prophecy, but the young. In this generation and the revival happening globally, sons and daughters will prophesy again and the men shall have the tenacity to see \u2013 to see Jesus.<\/p>\n
