Let’s talk Christian streaming platforms
Sharing Christian values while entertaining
Matthew 6:22-23 MSG, emphasises the importance of guarding our eye gate stating: “Your eyes are the window into your body. If you open your eyes wide in wonder and belief, your body fills up with light. If you live squinty-eyed in greed and distrust, your body is a musty cellar. If you pull the blinds on your windows, what a dark life you will have!”.
This passage of the Bible highlights how what you look at, what you set your gaze on, and what you focus on can fill your inner being with light or darkness.
Furthermore, studies in behavioural psychology and psychoanalysis show that what you watch can affect your inner self unconsciously by influencing your thoughts, beliefs, emotions and behaviours through the power of archetypes and unconscious absorption of information and symbolic messages within media. This subconscious influence can shape your perspective, habits and understanding even if you are not consciously aware of these connections. This is why Christians must filter the things they expose themselves to.
Choose content that aligns with your purpose in and goals in Christ, that the spirit man and soul may be nourished with the Word of God at all times – giving no space at all for darkness to invade the temple of the Holy Spirit.
As of today, streaming platforms offer convenient, on-demand access to diverse content, transforming how and what consumers watch. This has disrupted the traditional media models by investing into content creation with original programming and serialized storytelling. In addition, they provide global reach, personalised experiences and a more authentic connection between entertainment and the consumer’s lifestyle.
Nowadays, there are many Christian streaming platforms available to inspire both young and old. TBN (Trinity Broadcasting Network) is home to the largest library of Christian media providing numerous powerful teachings, sermons, worship and faith-based movies. It was launched over fifty years ago by Paul and Jan Crouch, with one small television station airing a few hours each night across Los Angeles, USA. As of today, TBN is impacting every corner of the earth streaming over 175 nations with life-changing Christian programming and content in 17 different languages through more than 30 global networks.
Yippee and Minho kids are safe, fun streaming services for younger audiences providing faith-filled series and TV shows. They are changing children’s lives with entertaining shows but also developing good character and spiritual growth in the faith. These are great media platforms to spark children’s imaginations and curiosity around Jesus and the bible.
YouTube has established itself as a dominant force in the streaming landscape, being the second most watched media service in the UK after BBC. Unlike Christian streaming platforms, the content available on YouTube is vast, hosting a diverse range of content from user-created videos to live streams, professionally produced shows, news and music from different backgrounds and supporting different belief systems. But most importantly, advancing different agendas and kingdoms.
However, there are many Christian channels on YouTube offering great content to empower, equip the body of Christ, creating a way of evangelism to the lost and teaching of the Word of God. From church services’s live streaming, teaching sessions, podcasts to films and documentaries. Indeed, The Good news of Jesus Christ must reach everywhere and to everyone.
