Inspired to Build
Pastor Petra on Faith, Business, and Purpose
In this interview, Pastor Petra shares how her journey into business began long before the pulpit. She reflects on faith, perseverance, and purpose, offering insight and encouragement to aspiring entrepreneurs to trust God and never give up on their God-given vision.
1. Can you tell us a bit about yourself and what inspired you to start your three businesses?
I’ve always been sporty individual. I love trying new things and I am not really afraid to try new things either. My business journey began out of necessity, because I needed to make some extra money during college and university days. From there, the rest was history.
2. How did your journey as a pastor influence your decision to go into
business?
I was already in business before I was commissioned as a pastor. If anything, my increased understanding of the Kingdom of God, deepened my desire to build.
3. What was the vision or mission behind your business when you first
started?
To create something for the believer that can be worn by anyone and that didn’t fall immediately into the category of Christianity. The vision has always been to make impact in any way possible.
4. What challenges did you face in the early stages, and how did you overcome
them?
I believe challenges will never end. However, one thing that was a challenge early on was to balance everything. Being able to give ample time to everything. I overcame this by managing my expectations and not giving up.
5. How has your business grown or evolved since you first launched it?
More product and service range. Also been able to handle the demands that come with it without feeling overwhelmed. We’ve grown in our reach and target audience especially with our Graduation Kente Stoles which is a huge plus.
6. What are some key lessons you’ve learned along the way as a business woman and a person of faith?
Prayer shouldn’t be taken out of anything. You will only grow if you’re willing to learn and implement better systems, relevant to your niche and the current age. I’ve learnt that I’m never too advanced to ask for help or advice.
7. How do you balance ministry work and business responsibilities?
To be very honest? I don’t know how I’ve managed it, I believe it’s purely the grace of
God!
8. In what ways does your Christian faith guide your business decisions and
interactions with clients or customers?
Christ teaches about character a lot. Integrity is so crucial. My faith has enabled me to be integral in all my dealings, and I’ve seen how much of a difference it makes.
9. What role does prayer or spiritual discernment play in your business
planning and growth?
A very vital role. Without it there’s no real direction. For example, we carefully choose all our releases and designs inspired through prayer, visions and sudden ideas and only proceed once God is pleased by giving us the go ahead.
10. What advice would you give to other Christians, who want to start their
own businesses?
Never start without a vision, purpose and confirmation from God. Stepping into business with no plan will delay a lot of things. Ensure you’ve done a lot of research and figured out your Unique Selling Point so that you enter with a bang and not enter to give up sooner.
11. How can someone prepare spiritually and practically before launching a
business?
Pray. Pray and pray some more. Have mentors, fast about it. Gain spiritual clarity and direction by involving God in your every move. Doing business without God as a Christian is very risky. Get a business mentor !
12. What do you believe are the most important qualities for a successful
entrepreneur?
An entrepreneur who understands the Kingdom Principles and sticks by them! The quality of an integral believer who is God fearing. They that fear God will represent God. Expansion, greater impact and giving back.
14. How do you see your work impacting others, both in the marketplace and
in your ministry?
I’ve seen the impact through being an example that many desire to see. Strong on not compromising, helping people to see that there’s a standard we must still uphold. I desire to have more impact by helping people see Jesus in a deeper sense through all things.
15. Is there a particular message you’d like to share with readers who may be
struggling to pursue theirGod-given dreams?
As long as God is involved, don’t give up when it gets difficult. It will get difficult before it gets easy, you have to persevere through it. Pursue God so much, that He communicates and aligns you on this journey. Giving up is only putting a gap in our quest to ensure Jesus is gloried in all the earth through the Gospel and our influence. Don’t give up! Build with Jesus in mind. It
