OpenAI has unveiled the latest version of its artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, GPT-5. The company’s CEO Sam Altman stated that this latest release is “clearly a model that is generally intelligent.” GPT-5 has been described as OpenAI’s “smartest, fastest, most useful model yet, with built-in thinking that puts expert-level intelligence in everyone’s hands.”

Sam Altman has made it known that, “GPT-5 is the first time that it really feels like talking to an expert in any topic, like a PhD level expert.” This latest model has been made to “feel” more human, as well as have a higher level of intelligence and better use of logic and reasoning.

GPT-5’s improved reasoning, speed, intelligence and accuracy enables it to handle or complete more complex tasks with fewer errors. This is something that businesses would and are already taking advantage of, as it allows businesses to operate with enhanced efficiency. For businesses that want to be ahead in innovation and effectiveness to attain a competitive edge, AI has become a necessary tool. The impact AI has had on businesses is one that can not be ignored.

There’s been a large increase and growth of AI usage in businesses, which at first could be attributed to large companies and dedicated AI companies. However, it is now estimated that up to 25% of smaller businesses are using AI, according to the British Chambers of Commerce.

What is AI?

AI stands for Artificial Intelligence. Much like the name suggests, it refers to computer systems and technologies that mimic human intelligence, as they are designed to perform tasks that would otherwise require human intelligence. This includes but is not limited to learning, comprehension, problem-solving, creativity, reasoning, autonomy and decision-making.

Some instances of how AI is used or what AI is used in are digital assistants such as Siri (Apple) and Alexa (Amazon), search engines such as Google, recommendation systems on streaming services, self-driving cars, social media such as Instagram, facial recognition in security systems and fraud detection in finance. AI is used to understand voice commands, answer questions, suggest movies and shows based on viewer history, create algorithms, personalise recommendations and analyse transactions.

The History of Chat-GPT

ChatGPT is an application from OpenAI that works to process and understand language inputs and produce meaningful outputs.

OpenAI was founded by Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, Elon Musk, Ilya Sutskever, Wojciech Zaremba, and John Schulman in December 2015. This team combined their proficiency in technology, software engineering and entrepreneurship to create an organisation committed to advancing artificial intelligence in a manner that would benefit humanity and society. Sam Altman is the current CEO of the organisation.

GPT-1 was the founding model of ChatGPT, introduced in 2018. GPT-1 was able to understand tasks, as well as, use data to predict the next word in a sentence. GPT-2 followed in 2019 with a note-worthy upgrade.

GPT-2 displayed an improvement in text generation capabilities and the output was coherent and multi-paragraph text.

GPT-3 showed an even more dramatic improvement in text generation capabilities, when it was released in 2020. This led to its widespread use in different applications, drafting emails, writing articles and even generating programming code. It also showcased how it could answer factual questions and translate between languages. This was the first model where people could engage with ChatGPT directly, ask it questions, and receive viable responses.

GPT-4 continued to show improvement when it was released in 2023. It presented the ability to follow user intention, reduced the chance of generating offensive or dangerous output, gave a more precise factual accuracy, produced the ability to modify behavior based on user requests and also the ability to search the internet in real time.

GPT-5 is the most recent version of ChatGPT having been introduced this year, 2025. It shows an even greater improvement and advancement of reasoning and coding. It is able to provide deeper reasoning for complex questions and tasks. GPT-5 is also able to express its inability to solve certain tasks or answer particular questions when it lacks the sufficient information. It is more trustworthy and reliable.

The Use of AI in Business

It is estimated that over half of UK businesses are using AI in 2025. AI is beneficial to UK businesses as it is primarily used to optimise operations, improve customer services and enhance productivity.

Examples of AI in Business:

Optimising Operations and Enhancing Productivity

AI can be used to optimise operations by assisting with decision making. This is done by speedily analysing complex data to provide insights, spotting any patterns and producing accurate predictions which enables businesses to create data informed strategies and action plans. AI also uncovers trends and completes repetitive tasks such as inventory management, allowing employees to focus on higher value work. AI ultimately helps businesses foretell demands, manage risks, and gain an advantage in dynamic markets.

Improving Customer Services

AI powered chatbots and voice recognition also help with customer interaction and satisfaction, seeing as it is a system that can provide 24/7, instant customer support. It can give responses to basic customer queries assist with tracking orders, product recommendations, and troubleshooting. This reduction in response times and constant availability results in an improvement in customer service.

Human Resources

AI streamlines the HR processes and improves the management of employees. This is done by enacting automated resume screening, automated onboarding for new hires and analysing employee engagement.

Fraud and Cyber Security

AI systems can help to prevent fraudulent activities, protecting both the business and the customer. This is achieved through analysing and examining all data, user behaviours, historical trends to identify any suspicious activities and risks that humans could potentially miss. AI systems have the ability to detect risks and block suspicious activity before any momentous damage is done.

Christians using AI in Business

Scripture points out time and time again, how all things were created through, by and for God. This means that there is definitely room in the Christian faith to use AI, Chat-GPT and all types of technologies for the advancement of the kingdom of God and to the glory of God.

Colossians 1:16 (NKJV) “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.”

1 Corinthians 10:31 (NKJV) “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”

However, it’s also essential to note that in all things the Holy Spirit should remain as the ultimate guide and leader for every Christian, including but not limited to, when making business decisions.

The Holy Spirit and the Bible is to inform every step of the believer, even in times it does not appear to make sense logically or from a business stand point. There should never be an over-dependence on AI lest it becomes an idol.

John 16:13 (NKJV) “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.”

Romans 8:14 (NKJV) “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”
