A Nation in Crisis is a Call to Help
When a nation struggles, every voice and every hand can make a difference
Sir Keir Starmer, the current Prime Minister of the United Kingdom shared his deep thoughts concerning the invasion of Gaza City. He expressed his deep frustrations and said Israel’s plans to take over Gaza City are “wrong” and will only cause “more bloodshed”.
The war in Gaza is a long standing conflict between Israel and Palestine. On one side is Israel, a modern state recreated after World War II as a home for the Jews. On the other side are the Palestinians who are mostly populated with those of the Islamic faith. It is a war for territory, identity and authority that has been waged for centuries. Despite many attempts for peace both countries haven’t been able to do so successfully. Both Jews (Israelis) and Palestinians have claimed the same land as their homeland, and in particular their most recent war in October 2023 left many civilians attacked and taken hostage.
Today, Gaza is yet to recover from all its misfortunes. On 22 August 2025, Gaza City had declared famine for the first time.
The IPC ( Integrated Food Security Phase Classification), has reported more than 500,000 people in the Gaza Strip are faced with “starvation, destitution and death”. Madeleine McGivern, a human rights monitor working in Gaza and Israel has expressed her difficulty seeing young and innocent children fighting for survival. She tells reporters that she’s witnessed “ children… just waiting to die and actually expressing a wish to die because it’s easier than what they are going through”.
For a land to classified in a state of famine, it must meet the condition of:
- One in five households has an extreme lack of food
- At least 30% of the population is actually malnourished
- At least two people – or four children under the age of five- in every 10,000 die from starvation
How does this concern the church?
UN chief says famine in Gaza is “a failure to humanity itself”
As the Body of Christ , this goes beyond political views, picking sides and weighing who is in the wrong. It is about human suffering, preservation of life and reflecting Jesus.
“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem! “May they be secure who love you!”
Psalm 122:6 ESV
It is the duty of Christian to bring answers, peace and love to those that are in need and suffering. Prayer is one of the primary acts of care in times like this. The message of Christ is to care for the broken, for the widows, for the fatherless and how much more the people are suffering in Gaza. God doesn’t resist the cry of the humble, and so if Christians humble themselves and cry out on their behalf He will answer. If Christians don’t cry out on their behalf, who will?
This is a call to go higher. This is a call for solutions. This is a call to become the light in darkness. Christians, stand up and be THE LIGHT!
