The Crown Returns to Arsenal!
Arsenal Wins The Premier League After 22 Years
Arsenal won the 2025-26 Premier League under manager Mikel Arteta. This ended a 22-year wait for the Premier League title.
On the 19th May 2026, Manchester City drew 1-1 with Bournemouth, which meant that Arsenal won the Premier League before playing their final match against Crystal Palace. With Arsenal four points ahead of the others and only one game remaining, there wasn’t any chance of any other team taking the title.
Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola even congratulated Arsenal stating, “On behalf of everyone at Manchester City, we congratulate Mikel and all the staff, players and fans on winning the Premier League.
Therefore, on the 26th May 2026, Arsenal played their match against Crystal Palace knowing they had already won the Premier League title. The fans and players came to this particular game with the assurance they are champions.
This is how Christians should approach any contention, battle or warfare, with the knowledge and assurance of victory. Scripture makes it clear that believers have already been afforded victory through Jesus Christ, this should be the reality that every Christian lives from.
1 Corinthians 15:57 (NKJV) “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Consecutively The Runner-Ups
Prior to this year’s victory, Arsenal have been the runners-up in the Premier League for the past three seasons. As a matter of fact, Arsenal have finished in second place more times than any other football club in the Premier League.
Being a runner-up means finishing in second place in a race, contest, or competition. It identifies the competitor or team that performed the best out of everyone else, just behind the official winner.
This means that Arsenal was often in a position where they were almost succeeding but still falling short.
After finishing as runner-ups again last year, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said,
“unfortunately we haven’t been able to do it, for many circumstances, but make sure that chasing a dream doesn’t get blurry and you don’t see what these players, these staff and this football club are doing, and make sure that we chase the dream with positivity and enthusiasm towards next season.”
As much as it may have been devastating for the Arsenal players and fans to come so close to winning but missing it yet again, an attitude of resilience had to be adopted, as they refused to stay down and give up.
The messaging behind this can heavily apply to the Christian faith and walk. Believers should never be in a position where they accept defeat, or refuse to get up again after falling down. No matter how bad the fall, no matter how excruciating the pain, scripture makes it clear that the expectation is to always get up and continue fighting.
Proverbs 24:16 (NKJV) “For a righteous man may fall seven times And rise again, But the wicked shall fall by calamity.”
The Celebrations Commence
Following Arsenal’s big win this year at the Premier League, their faithful fans came out in their numbers to celebrate this trophy.
Hundreds of thousands of Arsenal fans filled the streets with joy, excitement and laughter as they celebrated the first Premier League win in 22 years.
Many fans came out in their numbers stating how long they had been waiting for this day to come, with others acknowledging that though they have been an Arsenal supporter from birth, they had never actually seen Arsenal win a trophy.
This speaks to the faithfulness and comradely of the Arsenal fans who never stopped supporting their team, even when a win seemed unlikely. Christians can also learn a lesson from this about the importance of being faithful, even when it looks like there are no fruits.
Galatians 6:9 (NKJV) “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”
Believers must recognise the importance of showing up, being consistent and having a fixed gaze on Jesus Christ. Run the race with endurance, knowing that it is not in vain. Be faithful, knowing that it is not in vain.
